· Examine the variables that comprise the resource-based view of the firm.

Module Overview

We have examined the internal and external environment. Now for this module, we will focus on the Resource Based View (RBV) of the firm. The RBV has emerged as one of the most prominent paradigms in strategic management. The RBV focuses on a firm’s internal resources, and explores the way in which the nature of resources and their deployment by strategic managers leads to competitive advantage for the firm.

Our focus in this module will be on using the RBV to answer the following questions: Why do firms differ? Why do some firms have a competitive advantage over others? How do managers use resources to create a competitive advantage for a firm?
